Mission
About PlanningAudits
Irish planning applications are large, complex documents. The public has a right to engage with them but rarely has the tools to do so meaningfully. Applicants submit them without always knowing where the gaps are. PlanningAudits was built to change that — to make the rigour of Irish planning law accessible to everyone with a stake in the process.
Why we do it
Planning applications in Ireland are decided in public but rarely understood in public.
The documents are technical, the law is complex and most people — applicants included — don’t have the expertise to know where the gaps are. That’s not fair on anyone. A flawed application wastes the council’s time, the public’s time and the applicant’s money. Refusals and appeals that could have been avoided with better information at the start cost everyone.
How we work
How engagement works
When a client retains us — an applicant, planning consultant, council or community group — the work is confidential to that client. We don’t publish findings from a client’s work, and we don’t act for anyone else against a client’s application. Audits we carry out on our own initiative are our own analysis; where we publish them, we publish the analysis, not advice to any party.
Audits are available to applicants, planning consultants, councils and community groups, retained on the same terms by any of them. More on how we work.
PlanningAudits exists to make that rigour available to everyone. Not just those who can afford a planning consultant.
Who built it
